Basil Dark Opal Microgreens

Basil ‘Dark Opal’ isn’t an easy microgreen to grow, but the rich dark purple and slightly liquorice-flavoured leaves are worth the extra effort. Micro basil “dark opal” is best used fresh as they are too delicate to withstand any high heat. Most commonly used as a garnish, sprinkled over salads, pasta, pizza, and meat dishes. They provide high levels of nutrients and have a fresh, clean flavour. This basil variety contains iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, vitamin C, and anthocyanins, which are antioxidants which offer anti-inflammatory benefits.

The leaves are thin, smooth, and crisp with a variegated colour of dark purple and green. The slim stems are delicate, succulent and also purple. The Dark Opal variety basil is crunchy and mild with initial flavours of lemon-lime, transitioning to a subtle liquorice taste and a sweet-spicy flavour.
